TNA Impact Recap
January 14, 2006
By "Angle Slam"

Abyss Makes his way to the ring along with James Mitchell. They talk about Rhino Goring (yes, I'll use it as a verb) Abyss last week

They run through the card. (This card here has been updated with the new matches recently announced)

"The Man Beast" Rhino vs. "The Monster" Abyss w/ James
Mitchell

Jarrett and Monty Brown are shown discussing how Rhino, Team 3D and Christian Cage just walked into TNA. Jarrett says that they were the Flavor of the Month. He is upset with TNA management. Monty adds that it is Survival of the Fittest in TNA. They say that they are not intimidated. They say he respect him, but now its 2006. They also call him the Flavor of the Month and say he's going down.

AMERICA'S MOST WANTED (CHRIS HARRIS AND JAMES STORM w/
GAIL KIM) VS. CHRISTIAN CAGE AND RHINO

Some Christian Cage chants start. Harris takes control
with some punches. Cage with a nifty huricanrana followed by a spinal tap. He tags in Rhino. Rhino chants start. Cage sends Rhino into the turnbuckle and straight into Harris. Harris gets some offense and tags in Storm. Strom gets hit with a hip drop but comes back and drops him with a one-arm DDT. He tags in Harris. Harris throws Rhino into the corner. Storm holds Rhino as Gail slaps him. Rhino with a Samoan Drop and tags in Cage, who hits a modified backbreaker. Cage turns his attention to Gail, and Harris hits a belly-to-belly.

We come up to Harris in control as he hits a stalling
suplex. He gets a 2-count before Cage kicks out. He tags in Storm as he gets in some offense. He gets a 2-count. He signals for the superkick, but Cage blocks it and hits his signature diving reverse ddt, Cage reaches for the wrong corner at first, but eventually find Rhino. Rhino starts cleaning house. He comes back with a spinebuster but Storm breaks up the pinfall. Rhino throws out Harris. Cage with a cross-body on Storm. Only a 2-count. Storm gets some action and goes for the catatonic, Cage counters and goes for the unprettier. However, Gail Kim comes into the ring and kicks Cage in the groin. Roll up 2 count. Gail goes to
the top rope but 3D pushes her off. 3D hits a 3D on Harris. Rhino hits the GORE on Storm. Cage hits the frog splash Harris for the 3 count.

Winners: Christian Cage and Rhino

Christian Cage, Rhino and Team 3D celebrate, but not for long. Abyss, Monty Brown and Jarrett come and clean house. Abyss hits the Black Hole Slam on Rhino. Now, only Jarrett, Monty and Cage are in the ring. Jarrett misses a shot to Cage and hits Monty, who was holding him. Cage throws Jarrett out of the ring but Monty hits the pounce. Jarrett gets the guitar as Monty holds Cage. Jarrett smashes Cage with the guitar. Brown and Jarrett shake hands as the Impact Zone goes black!

Sting is on the audio and does his signature scream. He calls Brown and Jarrett Queen of the Mountain and Alpha Female. He says, "Let the mind games begin." He tells Jarrett to look up into the rafters for him. He says that at Final Resolution, it's going to be showtime.

THOUGHTS:

Thumbs Up: Well, there are some matches on the card that look appealing.I thought that they did a great job with Raven's video package, it was concise and to the point, and it leaves the fans wondering who his opponent. They certainly did a better job in advancing the feud between Jarrett, Gail Kim, and Jackie as they have now added D'Amore into the mix, I like the tease of a possible dispute and fall out between D'Amore and Jarrett.I enjoyed the idea of the promo for Final Resolution at the end of the show.

Thumbs Down: Honestly, I felt that this was not one of
TNA's best editions of Impact on Spike TV (and I am
extremely pro-TNA).Why start a feud between Shannon Moore and AJ Styles the night before a huge PPV event that can make or break TNA?, TNA could have saved 5 minutes of the show and used it for quality wrestling..Why does TNA make Jay Lethal's debut match on the roster a squash against Abyss? I know that Jay Lethal has a lot of talent, and that is just poor booking on their part. If I were TNA, I would make it an exciting match with someone like Roderick Strong. Now there's someone that TNA should push, he is a true workhorse in ROH..So let me get this straight, Monty
Brown was the #1 Contender after beating Abyss at Genesis, then TNA Management decided that Rhino was the #1 Contender for Turning Point, then Christian Cage is supposedly the #1 Contender, but Raven gets a title shot if he wins? Just poor booking on TNA's part.

Eh.: I completely understand why TNA feels that Sting's reputation will draw many more fans to TNA for at least one night, but they have mentioned Sting some 20 times this past month, yet he hasn't made one appearance on Impact. You need to get his face on Impact at least once before the PPV.Let me just say this about the Michigan house show (and I will not reveal any information to people who don't want to hear spoilers): the lineup for the house show completely ruins the angles for the next 2 months. I love the idea of the house shows (You comin' to Jersey anytime soon?) but it was silly to reveal the card that early, especially when they know that internet fans will find out EVERYTHING they can before it happens

Man of the Hour: Monty Brown- This guy has been hot for a long time now and no one has really touched him in the past month. I wouldn't rule out a possible turn on Jarrett (maybe not at Final Resolution but some time in the future). He definitely deserves a run at the NWA title and he's paid his dues.

Question of the Night: You think Jarrett booked it so that he would get knocked out of the ring and Monty would get all of the glory and hit the Pounce on Cage?

Abyss punches Rhino and then applies pressure to Rhino’s head. Rhino punches Abyss to get out of the hold and then he hits a flying clothesline and knee. Rhino with a running shoulder tackle in the corner. Rhino comes off the ropes, but he charges into a boot from Abyss and Abyss with a two count. Abyss punches Rhino, but Rhino with an Arn Anderson spinebuster for a two count. Rhino goes outside and gets a table and brings it into the ring and sets it up in the corner. Abyss gets Rhino up for the Shock Treatment, but the lights go out and Sabu is at ringside with a barbed wire chair. Abyss turns around and Rhino hits the GORE for the three count.

Winner: Rhino

Jeff Jarrett is in Larry’s office with Gail Kim and Shane Douglas as well. Larry tells Jeff that he needs to defend the title at Turning Point against Rhino. Larry says that it is a rubber match. Jeff wonders about Raven’s rematch. What about Monty Brown? Larry says that Jarrett hates both men. Jarrett says that they will probably slide Christian in and give him a title shot after Rhino. Jarrett says that Larry isn’t running things. Gail tells Larry that he is on thin ice as we go to commercial.

The 2-hour special of TNA iMPACT! started off with a video package highlighting the key moments of TNA, from the beginning to the present. Past appearances by Hulk Hogan, Sting, Macho Man Randy Savage, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall were highlighted with the current stars such as AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, and Monty Brown being shown as the future of professional wrestling. And now, it was time for your 2-hour adrenaline rush to begin with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling iMPACT!.

We were back as Shane Douglas was backstage with Jeff Jarrett. Shane Douglas reiterated that this will be Jarrett’s only chance against Rhino for the NWA World Heavyweight Title. Jarrett understood and reiterated himself that he would be walking out the champion and making history. It was Monty Brown that then busted onto the scene and said he wants the winner, and he said he hopes Jarrett wins so he can beat Jarrett for the most prestigious prize, the NWA World Heavyweight Title.

A video package was shown highlighting the success by NWA World Heavyweight Champion,Rhino in TNA thus far.

iMPACT! was back as Shane Douglas was backstage with NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Rhino. Rhino explained how he had the heart of a champion by winning all three of his matches at Bound For Glory and even becoming the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Rhino exclaimed that for the past four years he had to deal with politics and scumbags, but not here in TNA. Raven then made an abrupt appearance by saying Rhino had it easy with Zbyszko not after him. Raven said that Rhino had his title. Shortly after, Zbyszko with security took Raven out of the building. Rhino went back to saying that he was going to remain the NWA World Heavyweight Champion tonight by giving the GORE to Jeff Jarrett.

NWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
CHAMPION, RHINO vs. JEFF JARRETT
Jeff Jarrett received his usual inappreciative response, and Rhino received one of the loudest responses from the fans of the iMPACT Zone. The bell then rang signifying the start of this match as the fans chanted “Let’s Go Rhino, Let’s Go!”. Jarrett started off with a drop kick as the fans showed Jarrett what they thought of that. Rhino was back to his feet and gave Jarrett a series of knife edge chops, but Jarrett gave a quick drop toe hold and did his strut, but it was a premature celebration as Rhino went back to work and elevated Jarrett high up above his head and slammed him down. Rhino went for the Gore, but Jarrett wisely went outside of the ring. Rhino followed and tossed Jarrett over the steel guardrail as they were now in the crowd. Later on, Rhino said this was all his as he took at a table from beneath the ring. Jarrett though blind-sided Rhino as he was setting the table up and went back to work on Rhino in the ring. Rhino blocked the offense and was going to hit the Rhino Driver to Jarrett off the top rope but it was the distraction of Gail Kim that had Rhino pushed off the top to the outside by Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett now had the advantage as he jacked the jaw of the champion by sliding to the outside and giving a stiff right. At this time, Jeff Jarrett had all the momentum, but Rhino quickly used the power and strength advantage to buy some offensive time of his own. Rhino caught Jarrett with the elbow, and then a shoulder block in the corner. Jarrett though caught Rhino in the knee and took notice right away of the pain and locked in the figure four on Rhino. Rhino was able to turn over and change the power of strengths. Gail Kim then tried to hit a leg drop but missed. Rhino had her elevated up to throw out as Jarrett then did a small package pin with a near fall. Moments later, Rhino hit a vicious spine buster with a near fall of his own. Rhino then went down to his pocket of moves and delivered a belly to belly suplex to a then attempted Gore and clothesline that then hit the referee. Jarrett then attempted to hit Rhino with the guitar as Rhino ducked and hit the Gore! The referee was out though as Gail Jim circled the ring. Rhino had the guitar in hand as the NWA World Tag Team Champions, America’s Most Wanted came down and distracted Rhino. Jarrett hit the low blow as AMW now took Rhino and hit the Death Sentence to Rhino on the outside through a table. AMW took Rhino and rolled him back in as Jeff Jarrett hit The Stroke and pinned for the victory, thus become the new and 5-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion.

Winner & New NWA World Heavyweight Champion: Jeff Jarrett

Post match saw the Jeff Jarrett, America’s Most Wanted, and Gail Kim all raise each others arms as the power in TNA is back with this group. What does the future hold for Rhino, and what is Jeff Jarrett’s next move in TNA now that he has recaptured the NWA World Heavyweight Title? What is the future for Team 3D? They were shown backstage after the title win handcuffed and a pool of their own blood; obviously by the hands of America’s Most Wanted.

Tune in on Saturday, November 12, 2005 for the next edition of TNA iMPACT! as we will be less than 24 hours away from Genesis going live on pay-per-view!

JEFF JARRETT, MONTY BROWN, & ABYSS vs. AJ STYLES, JEFF HARDY, & LANCE HOYT
This wild match started off with Lance Hoyt and Abyss going at it. The two big men exchanged punches as Jeff Hardy was later tagged in by Hoyt. Jeff Hardy gained offense but it was Jeff Jarrett that blind-sided Hardy with a knee to the back while near the ropes. Moments later, Monty Brown was in the ring showcasing many of his high impact maneuvers against Jeff Hardy. Jarrett had to give in his two cents as well with a drop kick. It was AJ Styles though that cleaned house with his physically athletic phenomenal moves against the three opposes. All six combatants continued battling on the outside, but AJ Styles found himself getting a piece of Jeff Jarrett on the top rope with punches to the head and that’s when Abyss attempted a Black Hole Slam to AJ, however, AJ Styles turned it into a DDT. With all the full ahead steam AJ had, Monty Brown put that to a halt as he made his physical presence. Abyss then took his turn, as did Jeff Jarrett. Later on, all six men were turned loose as all competitors delivered their specialty moves. Ultimately in the end, it was the Christopher Daniels who took down AJ Styles from the top rope as Jeff Jarrett was then going to hit the Stroke. However, Monty Brown was seen running to hit the Pounce on the two, but Jarrett backed off and Brown hit Styles and got the pin for the victory.

Winners: Jeff Jarrett, Monty Brown, & Abyss

- After the match, all hell broke lose as Rhino, Sabu, and Kevin Nash all came down in the end to join in on the uncontrollable mayhem within the iMPACT Zone.

SABU vs. RHINO
It was now a match up between Rhino and Sabu as they went right at each other from the very beginning. These two are no strangers in the ring as they have had past encounters in TNA as well as the past. Sabu delivered several high-risk moves from his playbook of moves while “The Man Beast” Rhino just ate them and fired back. At one point it was almost like a sword fight of steel chair shots, but after a few, Rhino knocked Sabu’s chair out of his hands and delivered a viciously loud chair shot knocking Sabu down. A few moments later, Rhino was about to deliver the Rhino Driver to Sabu from the top rope but Sabu managed to avoid it and hit a hurricarana from the top. Later, Sabu missed Rhino from the top rope as he then turned around and was hit by a vehicle in Rhino’s GORE! Rhino got the win.

Winner: Rhino

The aftermath saw all four competitors for Monster’s Ball 2 at Bound For Glory battle it out in Abyss, Jeff Hardy, Rhino, and Sabu as security then broke up the brawl.

Main Event:
NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Raven & Sabu vs. Rhino & Abyss

Mike Tenay told us we would not miss a second of action as a commercial break then took place.

We were back as the opening bell for the main event rang as the NWA World Heavyweight Title laid on the ring canvas splitting Raven & Sabu on one side and Rhino & Abyss on the other. All hell broke lose as the four competitors created mayhem. Sabu and Abyss battled inside the ring, as Raven and Rhino took their battle to the outside. Sabu then chased Abyss out of the ring as Abyss then swung Raven into the guardrail. Sabu then saw Rhino and Abyss standing together as he flipped over the ropes and onto the two of them. Moments later, it was now Raven kneeing Rhino at the side of his body. Now, Sabu was tagged in as he went straight to work on Rhino, as he did a summersault leg drop, leading to a half camel clutch. James Mitchell then went on the apron to distract the referee as Rhino came from behind and knocked Sabu out of the ring. Now Abyss went after Raven as Abyss rolled Raven into the ring to fight Rhino after he loosened him up. Rhino did a series of stomps to Raven in the corner, as he laid on his buttocks almost lifeless. The Man Beast then stretched Raven up by holding the ropes and pushing his foot to Raven’s face as you could hear him scream. Now Abyss was back in the ring as he went to work on Raven, he looked at Sabu who wanted a tag, he gave one right hand punch to Raven, knocking him down. Abyss went to tag in Rhino as Raven tried to tag in Sabu but that didn’t happen. Rhino stopped Raven from making the tag. Rhino then went up the ropes and jumped off as his knee went to the face of Raven. Raven showed signs of life as he rammed Rhino into the corner, but that wasn’t enough; Rhino then locked in a headlock; Raven then dropped as that enabled a jawbreaker. Though the fatigued Raven couldn’t get back for the tag, but Rhino could. Abyss was now in the ring as he kept eying down Sabu, he but Raven in the corner and ran to him as Raven moved out of the way. Abyss caught the turnbuckle as Raven then crawled to make a tag, but that didn’t happen. Abyss regrouped and dropped an elbow to Raven. Now Rhino was tagged back in, at this point it was almost impossible for Raven to get back as Rhino did a running leg drop from the ropes and pinned, but Raven kicked out. Now Abyss was tagged in as he went to the top rope and missed Raven as he rolled to tag Raven. Sabu was now in with the steel chair, as he didn’t pull any stops! He threw the chair to Rhino and Abyss, to where he then did a springboard drop kick to the outside. Moments later, Rhino went to Gore Raven but he missed and hit Abyss! Sabu then did a drop kick to Abyss from the top with a steel chair under his legs and pinned Abyss for the pinfall victory!

Winners: NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Raven & Sabu

- The aftermath saw Rhino deliver the Gore to Sabu as Raven then went for revenge; however, the numbers game caught up as Abyss recuperated and took down Raven with help from Rhino. James Mitchell then got into the ring as Rhino and Abyss raised their arms together in what may seem somewhat of a redemption from their loss just moments ago, they had the last laugh.

We opened up with Mike Tenay recapping the events of Sacrifice, looking at the reformation of the 3 Live
Kru, Sean Waltman brutally attacking Jerry Lynn, Samoa Joe winning the Super X Cup over AJ Styles, and Rhino pinning Raven in the main event earning himself an NWA Heavyweight Title match at Unbreakable.
Backstage:
Shane Douglas is backstage and he says there is a
battle going on in Larry Zbyszko's office. Jarrett
said when they get to Spike TV, he will be champion.
Zbyszko said if he can get Rhino to step aside, then
he can have the title shot. Rhino then comes in and
Jarrett said for the good of the company, he needs to
be the World Champion. He said he wants the shot, and wants Rhino to think about it. Rhino said Jarrett has got it, but after he beats Raven at Unbreakable.

Backstage:
Shane Douglas is backstage with Monty Brown. Brown
said he told Kip that BG James could not be trusted,
but we had to do things Kip's way. Brown mocked Kip
and said we're doing things the Serengeti way from now
on. Survival of the fittest. He called BG James
worthless and weak, and said he doesn't care if it's
him, Rhino, Jeff Jarrett or Raven. He said the title
will come back to the Alpha Male, where it should have
been a long time ago.

Rhino vs. Sonny Siaki
The music of Rhino hit in the arena as he made his way
to the ring as the number one contender to the NWA
Heavyweight Title, and he is set for action against
Sonny Siaki, accompanied by Apollo. Rhino went to
attack Siaki from behind, but Siaki moved and took
over on Rhino with hip tosses and a leg drop for one.
Siaki hit some right hands but then ate an elbow in the corner and then Rhino hit a snake eyes on the buckle for two. Rhino choked Siaki in the ropes but then Siaki came back with right hands. Rhino kicked Siaki in the side of the head and covered for two and then locked in a rear chin lock. Siaki fought out but and hit a leg lariat and then a bulldog but then Rhino exploded out of nowhere with the Gore for the win.

Rhino got on the mic and said that he is going to Gore
Raven and make him bleed. He said he came here for the
World Heavyweight Title and nobody will stop him. At
Unbreakable, why wait for the PPV, and called Raven
out to the ring. The music of Raven then hit as he made his way to the stage. Raven said Rhino is going to pay and went to get in the ring but security filled the ring and kept the two apart. Rhino then exploded and gored Raven through the security.
Winner - Rhino
